# ACP Protocol

ACP (Agent Communication Protocol) is an editor-native protocol for AI agent ↔ editor communication, developed by the Zed editor team. Distinct from [MCP](/concepts/model-tier-routing) (which connects models to tools), ACP gives agents direct buffer access and write-through the editor's save path.

Neovim plugins CodeCompanion.nvim and Avante.nvim also list ACP support.
